Widevine DRM Check · Nordic Node

Last updated: 31 May 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the Widevine DRM Check Android app (package nl.nordicnode.widevinecheck, the “App”), published by Nordic Node (“we”, “us”), handles information. The App lets you check your device’s Widevine DRM security level and related streaming capabilities.

Short version: the Widevine check runs entirely on your device. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information that identifies you. The App is free and supported by ads (Google AdMob), and it uses Google’s Firebase to understand crashes and aggregate usage. In the EU/EEA/UK you are asked for consent before any personalized ads are shown.

1. Information the App handles

1.1 The DRM check itself — stays on your device

When you run a check, the App reads technical DRM properties from the Android MediaDrm system API (such as the Widevine security level, HDCP level, and supported streaming capabilities). This information is processed on your device and is not sent to us or any third party. The check requires no special device permissions and no account or sign-in.

1.2 Check history and settings — stored locally only

Your past check results and your app preferences (such as theme and language) are stored only in local storage on your device. This data never leaves the device, is not backed up to our servers, and is removed when you clear the App’s data or uninstall the App.

1.3 Advertising and analytics — handled by Google

The App is supported by ads and uses the following Google services, which may collect data as described in their own privacy policies:

ServicePurposeTypical data
Google AdMob Showing ads Advertising ID, approximate / coarse location, device and ad-interaction data
Firebase Analytics Aggregated, anonymous usage statistics App events, device model, OS version, country
Firebase Crashlytics Diagnosing crashes and stability issues Crash stack traces, device state at time of crash, OS version

We use this information only in aggregate to keep the App running and to improve it. We do not use it to identify you personally and we do not sell your data.

2. Your choices about ads (consent)

In the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, the App uses Google’s User Messaging Platform (UMP) to show a consent form before any ad is requested. Your choice determines whether ads are personalized.

You can review or change your consent at any time via Privacy options in the App’s menu (available where consent is required). You can also limit ad personalization at the device level by resetting or deleting your Advertising ID in your Android settings under Settings → Google → Ads.

3. Children

The App is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

4. Data retention and security

Data stored on your device remains until you clear the App’s data or uninstall it. Data handled by Google’s services is retained according to Google’s own policies. We take reasonable measures to protect the limited information processed through the App, but no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure.

5. Third-party privacy policies

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data, and to withdraw consent. Because we do not collect personally identifying information ourselves, most requests can be fulfilled directly on your device (clearing app data) or through Google’s account and ad settings. For anything else, contact us using the details below.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date. Significant changes may also be announced within the App.
