Privacy Policy — UWB Check
This privacy policy is written to be read, not skimmed. It is short on purpose.
What the app reads about your device
When you open UWB Check, the app reads two pieces of information from Android:
- Whether your device has UWB hardware, via Android's
PackageManager.hasSystemFeature("android.hardware.uwb"). This is a yes/no flag the operating system maintains. - Whether UWB is currently switched on, via the
androidx.core.uwb.UwbManager.isAvailable()Jetpack API and an optional state-change callback while the app is in the foreground.
Both of these describe your phone, not you. Neither is stored beyond the current screen. Neither is transmitted off your device by UWB Check.
The app does not request, read, or infer your location, your contacts, your call logs, the apps you have installed, or the accessories you own.
Permissions
The app declares one Android permission:
com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID— used by Google AdMob to serve a banner ad. You can reset or opt out of the Advertising ID at any time in your Android system settings, and you can withdraw or change your consent inside the app via Menu → Privacy options.
The app declares zero runtime permissions.
Advertising and consent (UMP)
UWB Check displays a single banner advertisement at the bottom of the main screen. Ads are served by Google AdMob.
In regions covered by the EU GDPR, EEA, UK, Switzerland and similar jurisdictions, the app shows the Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) consent form on first launch, and again whenever you choose Privacy options in the overflow menu. Your choice is stored by Google's UMP SDK on your device and respected on subsequent launches.
When you grant consent, AdMob may collect your Advertising ID and limited request metadata (e.g. approximate timestamp, country) to serve personalised ads. Their handling of this data is governed by Google's own privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
When you deny, or where consent isn't required, AdMob serves non-personalised ads.
Data we do not collect
To be explicit:
- No analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting service. The app is built with Timber only in debug builds; release builds log nothing.
- No account, no sign-in.
- No backend. Nordic Node operates no servers that UWB Check communicates with.
Children
UWB Check is rated for everyone, but it is a utility for adults researching their phone's hardware. It does not knowingly collect data from children. Under-13 users in the US should not use the in-app "Privacy options" form to grant consent without a parent or guardian.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a material way, we will update the date at the top and announce it in the app's release notes. The current version is always available at https://nordicnode.nl/uwb-check/privacy.html
Your rights
You can:
- Withdraw or change ad consent at any time via Menu → Privacy options inside the app.
- Reset your Advertising ID in Android system settings (Settings → Privacy → Ads).
- Uninstall the app at any time — this removes everything, including the locally-stored UMP consent record.
Because we hold no user data on our side, there is nothing to request, export, or delete from us under GDPR/CCPA. Requests about ad-network data should be directed to Google AdMob via the link above.
