This Privacy Policy explains what information the HDR Check app ("the app", "we", "us") processes, why, and the choices you have. We designed HDR Check to be privacy-first: its core feature — detecting your display's HDR capabilities — requires no runtime permissions and no personal data.
To tell you whether your display supports HDR, the app reads technical display characteristics through standard Android APIs, such as:
This information is read in memory and shown to you. It is not stored on a server, not linked to your identity, and not transmitted by us.
HDR Check relies on the following Google services. Each acts as an independent data controller for the data it collects under its own privacy policy.
The app displays one banner advertisement on the result screen. AdMob may process data such as your device's advertising identifier (Android Advertising ID), device and app information, and approximate, coarse signals used to serve and measure ads.
com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID permission solely for AdMob.When enabled, Firebase Analytics collects aggregated, pseudonymous usage and device information (for example app opens and feature interactions) to help us understand how the app is used. Analytics collection ships disabled by default and is enabled only after you grant consent.
Crashlytics collects crash and stability diagnostics (such as stack traces, device model, OS version, and the app state at the time of a crash) so we can fix problems. Crashlytics is enabled in published (release) versions of the app, independently of the advertising/analytics consent prompt, on the basis of our legitimate interest in diagnosing and fixing crashes (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). It is never active in development builds, the data is used only for stability diagnostics, and it is not used for advertising or to identify you.

On first launch (and where required by law) the app presents a consent prompt using Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP). Until you make a choice, the app keeps every Consent Mode signal — analytics storage, ad storage, ad user data, and ad personalization — set to denied, and no analytics or ad-personalization data is sent. (Crash diagnostics are handled separately — see section 3.3.) Your choice is then mirrored onto the advertising and Firebase Analytics services.
The app stores a small amount of local preference data on your device (for example your selected light/dark theme) using Android DataStore. This data never leaves your device, is not synced or backed up by us, and is removed when you uninstall the app.
HDR Check is a general-audience utility and is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can address it.
Because we do not maintain user accounts or our own server-side profiles, most data subject requests concerning analytics, crash, and advertising data are handled by Google as the controller of that data.
We do not retain personal data on our own servers. Data collected by AdMob, Firebase Analytics, and Crashlytics is retained according to Google's policies and the configured retention settings for those services. Local preference data persists on your device until you clear app data or uninstall the app.
The third-party services may process and store information on servers located outside your country, including in the United States. These transfers are governed by the respective providers' safeguards and privacy policies.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
